PRISTINA, Kosovo, Serbia-Montenegro -- UNMIK will not attempt to block the candidacy of Kosovo Protection Corps chief Agim Ceku for prime minister, a UN spokesman said on Monday (6 March). "Kosovo has its democratic institutions and has the right to decide about its prime minister," said Neeraj Singh. Serbia has been urging UNMIK to prevent the former Kosovo Liberation Army commander from taking the post.
Also Monday, Kosovo Serb leader Oliver Ivanovic met with UNMIK chief Soren Jessen-Petersen and cautioned about renewed incidents targeting ethnic Serbs in the province. Sunday night, unknown gunmen shot at a car carrying Serbs on the Lipljan-Staro Gracko road. (AFP, RTS, Tanjug - 06/03/06)
