Six dead, dozen injured in new clashes in Turkey's southeast

ANKARA, Turkey -- New clashes between Turkish security forces and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) terrorists left six dead and about a dozen injured, according to media reports Wednesday (5 April). According to the local media, five Turkish soldiers were killed in the fighting late Tuesday in the southeast province of Sirnak. Another six soldiers, as well as two terrorists, were injured. In the town of Genc, one policeman was killed and seven others wounded in a PKK attack on a police station.

Also Wednesday, two people were injured when a bomb exploded in front of the ruling Justice and Development Party's district office in Istanbul, causing significant damage. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack. (AFP - 06/04/06; NTV, TurkishPress.com, CNN - 05/04/06)
